Research Interests:
I am currently working on a project entitled “Philanthropy and the Shaping of Social Distinctions in nineteenth-century American, Canadian and German cities”. This research investigates when and by whom philanthropic models for the establishment of museums, art galleries, social housing projects and hospitals were transferred from Europe to the United States and Canada, and explores the establishment of the bourgeoisie in American, Canadian and German cities. My research focuses on the major museums, libraries, social housing enterprises and hospitals of Boston, Leipzig, New York and Toronto.
