Jorge Carvalho
Curriculum Vitae
Born in Porto in 1964, and
graduated in 1990 at the Faculty of Architecture of Porto.
From 1989 to 1990 he worked in London with David Chipperfield. After returning to Portugal
he began regular collaboration with Álvaro Siza, as project architect for the
Reconstruction of the Chiado District in Lisbon, and he opened his own practice in Porto.
He alternates architectural design with writing, having published several texts about
modernist and contemporary buildings. Projects include, among others: competition projects
(Headqurters of the Portuguese Architectural Association, Lisbon,
1992; Public Library, Porto,
1994; private development of 310 dwellings, Ovar, 1996); private houses (House Salomé
Castelo Branco, construction finished 1998; House Albertino Carvalho, under construction;
Twin Houses in Pinheiro Manso, Porto, current); and a number of interior designs and
furniture designs.
