Arie Graafland is
professor architectural theory at the faculty of architecture at TU Delft.
After
a three year technical education in Rotterdam, he studied sociology and
philosophy in Amsterdam.
He worked for several years in urban research for the
city of Arnhem.
In 1978 he started at the department of Urbanism at the faculty.
In 1986 he received his PhD in architectural theory.
After a seven years period
at urbanism, he is mostly involved in architecture theory and urban theory: he
has published extensively at these topics.
He is the editor of The Critical Landscape Series (010 Publishers), and
co-editor of the Delft Annual.
He is course director of the Delft School of
Design (DSD), a PhD program at the faculty of architecture
(web.bk.tudelft.nl/dsd).
He lives in Amsterdam.
