Dr.
Lex Hermans
was
born
in 1958,
holds a PhD-degree in History (Leiden University, 1990).
He was a music and literature journalist (1983-1991) and arts marketer (1991-1999)
before entering academia as Research Fellow in the department of Art History,
first at the Free University of Amsterdam (1999-2005), then at the University
of Groningen (2005-2006), and currently at Leiden University (since 2006).
His main publications are:
- a study on Homosexuality in the Roman Empire (1995),
- a monograph on Dutch Views on Classicism in Architecture, 1770-1850 (2005), both in Dutch,
- and the forthcoming Moved by Images: Rhetorical Functions of Images and Architecture in Italian Renaissance Theory (2009).
Besides
he published a Dutch translation of Leon Battista Alberti’s De pictura,
with commentary by Caroline van Eck & Rob Zwijnenberg (1995),
and a few articles on rhetoric in Renaissance architecture.
